Grace Over Gambling is a 5-session Christian recovery programme that helps people overcome gambling by combining coaching, accountability, and faith-based transformation.
It’s not just about stopping gambling. Gambling addiction is a spiritual issue and requires transformation of beliefs around identity and purpose.

How does it work?

Our experienced Recovery Coaches lead the sessions, while a Supporter from the local church sits in with the Participant, offering ongoing support beyond the sessions and walking alongside them for the long term. This becomes the Participant’s primary relationship.

We provide the church with a simple and clear manual that gives both the Pastor and Supporter guidance, whilst offering in-person support to them 6/7.

Each Participant receives a substantial workbook of over 100 A4 pages, which they use to prepare for sessions, take notes, and keep as a valuable resource to revisit in the future.

Frequently asked questions

  • Yes, all our Recovery Coaches have a living faith in Jesus Christ. We check this on their recruitment and we check in with our Recovery Coaches to make sure they are still doing well spiritually.

  • We feel it is important to have a programme that works holistically for believers, and does not ignore the spiritual realm. The enemy loves to tangle everyone, but Christians especially, in a web of despair.

    Having said this, there are plenty of other “secular” programmes and coaching or even counselling out there, many of which are free (albeit funded indirectly by gambling firms). These will often be high quality.

    You should look at the needs of your Participant. If we are the best place for them then we would love to help.

  • We decided at the outset not to bid for the myriad of funds which are widely available for supporting people into recovery from gambling addiction. These funds are contributed by a voluntary levy on the gambling industry and we see them as “blood money”.

    If you compare us against private coaching or healthcare then you will find we are relatively good value for the comprehensive written materials and coaching support, backed up by managerial oversight.

  • We know that £350 is a lot of money to fork out for someone, especially as there is no guarantee that they will engage.

    There are creative ways to approach this, for example:

    • You could ask us for a bursary if the person lives in a deprived area, for which we do fundraising

    • You could pay up front for the Participant and present it to them as an interest-free loan which they pay back gradually (they will likely be saving lots of money by not gambling)

    • If the Participant’s family are already aware of their problem, then the Participant might want to see if they want to contribute. They may see this as a way to help their loved one without the risk of giving them money

  • If you have people who could coach and feel comfortable doing so, we ultimately want to facilitate this and are working towards adapting the materials. This would really cut the cost. Please email us to ask whether this is yet possible.
